The Moorland Cowl is worked primarily in linen stitch (also known as woven stitch) which produces a textured dense yet drapey fabric that is reminiscent of traditional woven blankets and woollen tweeds.
When combined with a beautiful plump woollen spun yarn in delicious heathery shades, the result is a wonderfully cosy cowl just perfect for leisurely ambles across the moors…
Although it looks like there’s some colourwork shenanigans to worry about you only ever work one colour in each row. Row by row colour sequence instructions are included to achieve the pattern pictured along with full written instructions for working Linen Stitch in the round.
The Moorland Cowl was inspired by the wonderful Brushwork yarn from Blacker Yarns - a limited edition luxury blend of Bowmont, Castlemilk Moorit and alpaca. It is a gloriously plump bouncy yarn with a slightly felted feel when knitted up which adds to the well loved tweed feel of the finished cowl.
If you are substituting be sure to pick something soft yet toothsome and preferably woollen to achieve similar results!
