Misdirection Cowl
Misdirection Cowl is a multidirectional cowl knit with light soft sock yarn. It’s all garter stitch, so most of the technical appeal lies in how these different garter stitch fabrics connect and relate to each other, but the result is a very nice neckwarmer with an excellent taper and drape.
Use different colorways for different sections (as shown in the main sample, and described in the pattern), or work the entire project in a tonal yarn, a gradient skein, or random scraps—every project has great potential to be unique to you.
Materials:
- 30g/123yd Color 1 (Malabrigo Yarn Sock Ivy), 20g/82yds Color 2 (Malabrigo Yarn Sock Cirrus Grey), 75g/307yds Color 3 (Malabrigo Yarn Sock Playa)
- 1 24” circular needles in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- optional: DPNs in size needed for gauge
- removable stitch markers
(The DPNs are optional, as I really only got them out to make the middle section tutorial photos easier to do, but I found them useful for getting this part of the cowl established.)
Gauge:
Gauge is 22 sts and 44 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked lightly.
Measurements:
This cowl has a slight taper. The natural shape is a wonky one, and the distortion make the measurements a little more variable than usual
