In the Memory Lane Cardigan, attention is drawn to the striking cable detail on the front panels. This design takes its name from the medallion motifs formed by the cables: like a treasured locket, the patterns of this cardigan can hold memories and cherished moments close to the heart.
This straight-cut cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down. The cable pattern begins at the collar and widens at the top of the fronts, continuing all the way down to the ribbed hem. The cardigan features stockinette stitch on the back and sleeves.
It starts with the collar by casting on stitches for the left side of the collar, which is worked in the cable pattern. Then, stitches are picked up along the cast-on edge to work the right side of the collar in the same cable pattern. These collar sections are set aside, and stitches for the back piece are picked up from the lower edge of the collar.
The back is worked flat in stockinette stitch with gradual increases at both side edges to shape the shoulders. Once the desired width is reached and no further increases are needed, the back is worked straight down to the underarm.
Stitches for the front panels are then picked up along the sloped edges at the top of the back piece. Since the cable pattern requires more stitches, additional stitches are increased to accommodate the motif. The front panels are worked down to the underarm, after which the back and fronts are joined and the body is worked flat in one piece to the hem.
A three-stitch edge on both fronts creates a neatly rolled i-cord-style border. The hem is finished with a 2x2 rib, and the stitches are bound off in pattern.
Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes and the sleeves are worked in the round from the top down. A few decreases shape the sleeves, and the cuffs are finished with a wide 2x2 rib.

The cardigan is worked by holding one strand of fingering-weight yarn together with one strand of lace-weight yarn throughout. Alternatively, you may use a single strand of DK-weight yarn. In that case, disregard all instructions referring to “held double.” You’ll need the same total meterage or yardage of DK-weight yarn as you would of fingering-weight yarn.

Memory Lane Cardigan -neuletakissa huomio kiinnittyy etukappaleiden näyttävään palmikkokuvioon. Neule on saanut nimensä palmikoiden muodostamasta medaljonkikuviosta: kuten korumedaljonkeihin, myös tämän neuletakin kuvioihin voi tallentaa muistoja ja ihania hetkiä, jotka säilyvät mielessä. Suoralinjainen neuletakki neulotaan saumattomasti ylhäältä alas. Palmikkokuvio alkaa kauluksesta, levenee etukappaleiden yläosassa ja jatkuu aina resorineuleeseen saakka. Takakappale ja hihat neulotaan sileää oikeaa.
Työ alkaa kauluksen neulomisella, ensin luodaan silmukat kauluksen vasenta puolta varten, joka neulotaan palmikkoneuleena. Sen jälkeen luomisreunasta poimitaan silmukat kauluksen oikeaa puolta varten, ja kaulus jatkuu palmikkoneuleena. Takakappaleen silmukat poimitaan kauluksen alareunasta.
Takakappale neulotaan sileää oikeaa neuletta tasona, ja olkapäiden muoto saadaan lisäämällä silmukoita vähitellen molemmissa reunoissa. Kun haluttu leveys on saavutettu eikä lisäyksiä enää tarvita, takakappale neulotaan suoraan alas kainaloihin asti.
Etukappaleiden silmukat poimitaan takakappaleen yläreunan viistoista reunoista. Koska palmikkokuvio vaatii enemmän silmukoita, etukappaleille lisätään tarvittavat lisäsilmukat. Etukappaleet neulotaan kädentien korkeudelle, etu- ja takakappaleet yhdistetään, ja vartalon alaosa neulotaan tasona aina helmaan asti.
Molemmissa etureunoissa on kolmen silmukan reunus, joka muodostaa siistin, i-cord-tyylisen rullautuvan reunuksen. Helma viimeistellään 2 o, 2 n -joustinneuleella, ja silmukat päätellään joustinneuletta neuloen.
Hihojen silmukat poimitaan kädenteiden reunoista, ja hihat neulotaan suljettuna neuleena ylhäältä alas. Muutamat kavennukset muotoilevat hihaa, ja hihansuut viimeistellään leveällä 2 o, 2 n -joustinneuleella.
Neuletakkia kannattaa sovittaa työn edetessä, jotta voit säätää pituuden itsellesi sopivaksi.
