Knitted friends are the best friends, and Melly the Elephant gives unbeatable cuddles. Knitted in garter stitch, Melly also has a bright patchwork blanket saddle.

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the elephant is knitted in garter stitch in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). A crochet hook is used to add the elephant’s tail and a blue crochet border to the blanket.

NEEDLES
A pair of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles (US 4)

RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; one 100g/280m skein in each colour

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, buttons for eyes and a stitch marker.

SIZES
One size only - 17cm tall x 19cm long.

TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knit, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
