The Story
My first winter in 10 years has arrived - and I LOVE it! I can wear all the beanies, all the cowls, all the shawls, all the mitts… the list goes on and on.
This simple, marled beanie, knit with 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn held together is a wonderful addition to any knitters wardrobe and can be worn 3 ways: super slouch, a peaked and tall beanie or fitted with a folded brim. What’s your favorite way to wear it?
Materials
- Lamb’s Pride Worsted (worsted weight; 85% wool, 15% mohair; 190 yds/113g per skein): 1 skeins ‘Oatmeal’ (M-115)
- Blue Sky Alpaca Techno (bulky weight; 68% baby alpaca, 10% extra fine merino, 22% silk; 120 yds/50g): 2 hanks ‘1970 Fame’
- US 10 (6mm) 16” circular needle and DPNs.
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
Notes
- This hat is worked in the round from the brim up. The hat features an oversized garter brim and a stockinette cap. The brim can be left unfolded and worn nice and tall, folded up by 2 inches and worn as a tall beanie, or folded completely in half (3 inches) and worn as a fitted beanie.
- Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge.
- When the circumference of the hat becomes too small for the circular needle during the Crown Shaping, change to DPNs to finish the hat.
- Although the Blue Sky Alpaca Techno yarn used for the sample is considered a bulky weight yarn, it’s quite light weight. A worsted weight yarn could easily be substituted.
- The yarn will be held double for the entirety of the hat, creating an extra-thick fabric for maximum coziness. 150 yds of each yarn is required to complete the project.
