This cowl uses an old German stitch pattern that I find extremely beautiful – I just had to use it! Doesn’t it look gorgeous in the silky, shiny yarn from Switzerland? I made the cowl for my father’s cousin Marion. I remember so many happy hours spent at her house on my holidays as a kid that I want to thank her for.

The cowl is knit as a long scarf and then joined or seamed.

Size:
Short: 16 cm 6.3’’ wide and 68 cm 26.75’’ around
Long: 16 cm 6.3’’ wide and 116 cm 45.67’’ around

Gauge:
1 pattern repeat (16 sts and 16 rows) is about 7.5 cm 3’’ wide and 6.8 cm 2.67’’ high
25 sts and 40 rows = 10 cm 4’’ in stockinette stitch
(Gauge is not vital for this project, but it will affect the size of the FO and yardage.)

Materials:
Siidegarte Siide-Quirlig (110 g (3.9 oz), 440 m (480 yd), 70 % silk, 30 % SeaCell), 1 hank Hunggblüemli
Or approx. 135 m (145 yd) fingering weight yarn of your choice for the short cowl
Siidegarte Siide-Fideel (120 g, (4.2 oz), 480 m (525 yd), 50 % silk, 50 % merino), 1 hank Tinteblueme or
approx. 225 m (245 yd) fingering weight yarn of your choice for the long cowl
3 mm (US 2.5) 40 cm (16”) circular needle, or a size that gives you a fabric you like.
(Designer’s note: I’m a loose knitter, so you may want to try bigger needles if you aren’t.)
