This coverlet began as just an idea, when my dear friend Margaret was giving away a large bag of sock yarn in preparation for a move. It was such a riot of color I started thinking about what I could use it all for. I had been reading about quilting traditions in America and this concept was born. I pulled out all the left-over sock yarn in my stash and was delighted to see yarn from various socks I made for my daughter as she grew. I designed a simple lace hexagon, with a star pattern at the center, and started knitting hexagons with my bits of sock yarn. I was totally unrestrained in my color choices and only minimally restrained in their placement for my coverlet, but the project allows for the knitter to be as controlled or as free as they choose. Because this blanket is modular, it can easily be made larger. The directions include layouts for three sizes.

Yarn for hexagons: Sock yarn in assorted colors and patterns; one 50 gram ball will make 8-10 hexagons (hexagons weigh 5-6 grams each.) You will need 7-15 balls (50 grams) for a coverlet (see finished size, gauge and notes.)
Yarn for border: Sock yarn in a solid or semi-solid color to join squares and make border: one 50 gram skein will complete an extra small or small coverlet and two skeins for a medium. Get extra if you plan a larger piece.

The motif is charted and the directions for working them and finishing the piece are written.

10/29/17: I created a table with line-by-line directions for the chart as support for someone so am happy to make that available to anyone (who purchase the publication) who is not a chart fan. You still need the pattern but the table can be used in place of the chart. Email me to request it. I am not able to provide support for people who downloaded this publication illegally.
