Lucy Cardigan
This women’s cardigan is knit from the bottom hem up in one piece, back and forth. After the waist and bust shaping are completed, the body is worked to the armholes, and the fronts and backs are then divided and shaped to the shoulders. The full-length sleeves are worked in the round to the underarms, where the cap shaping begins and the sleeves are worked back and forth from this point. The front bands and neckline are worked in garter stitch and fastened with small buttons. The back of the sweater features a large set of interwoven diamond lace motifs, with a similar motif on the sleeves. The front bands are trimmed with a smaller diamond lace pattern.
Any fingering-weight yarn with good stitch definition and without much of a halo will work well for this project. Please note the lace motifs are presented in CHARTED FORM ONLY; they are not written out. You will need approximately 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6) skeins of a fingering-weight yarn with 435 yards/100 grams per skein to knit this sweater as written.
Since I love subtle puns, when I decided on a diamond-shaped motif for the sleeves and back of this cardigan, and then decided I wanted a sky blue colorway, I had to name this one Lucy.
