What do you call a piece that’s half-scarf and half-cowl? A corf? A scowl? Definitely not a scowl! This pattern doesn’t just bring smiles, it brings good fortune too! The cabled horseshoes are supposed to bring luck to anyone who wears them. And the “Lucky Horseshoes” scarf can have up to twenty-three -- count ‘em, 23! -- horseshoe motifs in a row. That’s a lot of luck!

“Lucky Horseshoes” includes written instructions for three different sizes:
Small (necklet): 7.5” X 24”/19 X 61cm
Medium (scarf-length): 7.5” X 48”/19 X 122cm
Large (extra-long scarf-length): 7.5” X 62”/19 X 157cm

The longer you choose to make it, the more ways there are to wear it -- buttoned together for more of a cowl look, loose and flowing like a scarf, or wrapped around your shoulders for more protection against the cold.

This is a great pattern for a beginner’s introduction to the basics of cable knitting, but experts will enjoy the results as well. It’s perfect for making quick gifts, too.

Happy Knitting!
