Love and Joy shawl was designed to celebrate the love and joy we put into and get out of every project we make with beautiful yarn. The love and joy of hand dyed yarn, of amazingly bright tonals and contrasting variegated skeins, of skeins we couldn’t live without but have no idea how we’re going to use. The love in supporting indie dyers. The pure joy of finally getting those special skeins on our needles and turning them into a super wearable piece. This top-down triangle shawl is intended to show off two spectacular, highly contrasting skeins of yarn. Simple garter stitch, slipped stitches, and eyelets with frequent color changes allow the yarn to be the star of this shawl, while the process will be soothing and easy, perfect for any level knitter and great for tv, conference call, commute, or social knitting.
This squishy triangle shawl is worked from the top down, with increases worked on the outer edges and along the center spine to form the classic triangle shape. Gauge is not crucial for this project, and the pattern will work with a variety of bases in fingering or sock weight. If substituting yarn weight or working at a different gauge, please keep in mind that yardage may vary!
As written, the sample used the two suggested skeins in full. ANY changes to size or gauge will result in differing yardage requirements, and any increases of the final size will require additional skeins. Please use Color A to swatch. Swatching is not compulsory for this pattern, but will help determine drape and needle size.
For results that look the most similar to the sample, use the suggested yarn or a merino-based yarn. Choose yarns that have high contrast with each other.
This pattern was intentionally designed to use special, wildly variegated, bright, and/or colorful contrasting skeins of fingering weight yarn, and to fit comfortably under a jacket or a hoodie with the point in the front.
NOTE: A few testers ran out of yarn, particularly if their row gauge was larger than the suggested gauge. If you’re a loose knitter, consider going down a needle size.
