Lopez Island Cap
This pattern was one of four projects that were a part of the Spinnery’s 2018 Mystery Project Club.
Nestled in Washington State’s San Juan Islands, Lopez Island is home to several flocks whose fiber is blended into a rustic 2-ply yarn. It is ideal for lace work that is held open by the fiber’s halo. Through this filigree of stitches, you can see a soft background of hand painted purl stitches that hint at hidden depths.
This cap has two layers worked at different gauges with different yarns. It is constructed by starting at the top of the inner stockinette layer and working down to the brim. After switching yarns and needle sizes, a slightly larger lace layer is worked back up to the top. The two layers fit one into the other.
Gauge:
Inner stockinette layer: 28 sts and 36 row per 4” in with smaller needle, blocked
Outer Lace layer 22 sts and 28 row per 4” in with larger needle, blocked; for accuracy, check gauge and adjust needle size if necessary.
Yarn Requirements: Inner: 1 skein Meadow, Forest or Lana (approx. 200 yds of fingering weight yarn); Outer: 1 skein Island Fibers Sport 2-ply (or approx. 200 yds of Simply Fine)
Errata was created 8/26/19. All patterns purchased after this date include the corrected information.
