Pattern description from Lace Style: “Simultaneously elegant and whimsical, Lois S. Young’s over-the-elbow fingerless gloves accessorize any sleeveless top or dress. The gloves begin at the upper arm with an edging pattern worked back and forth in rows until the circumference of the arm is reached. Stitches are then picked up along the straight edge of this strip, joined for working in the round, and worked downward to the fingers in alternating panels of stockinette and faggot stitch. A few crystals look like tiny buttons on the upper edging.”

Finished Size: About 6” (15 cm) hand circumference, 9” (23 cm) elbow circumference with lace pattern relaxed, and 18” (45.5 cm) long. Gloves will stretch up to 2” (5 cm) more in circumference to accommodate a range of sizes.

Yarn: Fingering weight (CYCA #1 Super Fine).
Alchemy Yarns of Transformation Monarch (70% cashmere, 30% silk; 156 yd (142 m)/40 g): #044f cherry tart, 2 skeins.

Needles: Size 2 (2.75 mm): set of 4 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); stitch holder; ten 4 mm beads; sewing needle and matching thread for attaching beads; piece of stiff paper or thing cardboard about 11 x 17” (28 x 43 cm) for blocking form.

Additional Gauge: lace edging pattern from chart measures 2½“ (6.5 cm) wide at deepest point

Notes from Lace Style:

  • Both gloves are worked the same and can be worn on either hand.
  • Be careful that you do not accidentally drop any yarnover that occurs at the end of a needle or the end of a round.
  • Work double yarnovers as purl 1, knit 1 on subsequent rows.
  • Tie a piece of thread or place a removable marker in the first yarnover of the round following a decrease round to make it easier to measure the length between decrease rounds.
