Legend has is that Lohengrin, knight of the Holy Grail, appeared in shining armor in a boat drawn by a swan to fight for the honor of Elsa, his future wife.
The side patterns of these socks picture the running water of the river, on which Lohengrin came along, while in the front panel you can imagine the shield of this brave knight.

Found in a modern Japanese pattern book (‘knitting patterns book 250’ by Shida Hitomi, Nihon Vogue), some traditional Celtic cable motifs were adapted and modified to work well as twisted stitches in this sock, where they now flow smoothly from cuff to toe.
