When you want to bury yourself under a blanket for the day, the Log Off Shawl is perfect - its like a blanket that you can take with you! Made with just one stitch in small modular section, this large rectangular wrap is suitable for adventurous beginners upwards.
While the pattern name comes from the inspiration of traditional log cabin quilts, it is also an invitation to spend time away from your phone and other devices and lose yourself in some gentle, meditative crochet.

Sizes
One size
Sample measures 56cm/22in wide by 168cm/66in.
Size varies based on yarn used. You can calculate the size by blocking the first section of Clue One, measuring the diagonal and multiplying that by 4 for the width and 12 for the length. Width isn’t easily adjusted but additional repeats can be worked to increase the length. Guidance on this will be given in the pattern.

Materials
We used:
7 50g skeins Daughter of a Shepherd Ram Jam Sport (sport, 100%
wool, 169m/185yds/50g) in shades:
Yarn A: 2 50g skeins in shade 0
Yarn B: 2 50g skeins in shade 2
Yarn C: 2 50g skeins in shade 1
Yarn D: 1 50g skein in shade 3
4.5mm hook
5 removable stitch markers

The pattern is designed to be worked as a stash-buster, using as many colours as you like. Each segment uses a small amount of yarn; yarn ends from as little as 5g may be used up. Using larger amounts of 10g or 20g will allow you to have symmetry and the shawl builds in such a way that this is easy to achieve without needing to forward plan. As in quilting, you can keep the palette simple or go for a riot of colours.
Colour changes are just a suggestion, you can work one colour where two are suggested or two colours where one is suggested. It’s up to you, but I’d suggest only changing colour on RS rows to keep it neat. The pattern includes yarn amounts and finished sizes for sport weight, Dk (worsted) and 4ply yarns.

Tension
Instead of doing a tension swatch you should work the first part of the pattern then stop and block your work as directed. Your exact tension will depend on the yarn you choose. You are looking to work at a tension that allows the short stitches to relax a little; the square should be drapey not stiff. It is also important that it comes out
square. The pattern relies on your stitch gauge matching your row gauge.
