Little Bunny Mittens
When I first designed these mittens I only included sizing for children. But then my hands were jealous and I had to include adult sizing too. They have so much personality for such a small amount of effort- how can a gal resist? I loved picking out the fabric for the inner ear- it is a great chance to use some of those little scraps of special fabric you’ve been saving for that quilt you are never gonna make. Let’s be honest here- wouldn’t you rather make bunnies?
This was first published in Crochet One-Skein Wonders for Babies in only one size. The Ravelry version of this pattern has been updated to fit 6 sizes: Toddler, 4-6 year old, 7-10 year old, Women’s Small, Women’s Medium and Women’s Large.
These mittens are simple (and quick) to make using mostly hdc stitches.
Let’s talk Yarn:
You will need about 145 (165, 215, 270, 295, 315) total yards of dk weight yarn (CYCA #3). I used Berroco Vintage DK (52%acrylic; 40% wool; 8% nylon), 100g 3.5 oz, 290 yds 266 m in color Smoke #2106 for samples pictured. Note: I added about 10-15 yards to the quantity I actually used for the numbers listed above, but if you aren’t super careful with your gauge you may need more.
Tools and Materials Needed:
• Size F/5 3.75 mm crochet hook (or whatever size will give you the correct gauge- see below)
• Yarn needle
• Removable stitch marker
• Sewing pins
• A small amount of fabric or felt for inner ears (see Finishing notes).
• Embroidery needle and embroidery floss: light pink for nose, black for outlines for mouth and edges of nose, white for whiskers, and a color that is similar to yarn color for whip stitching the appliqués onto the ears (alternately you could use sewing thread for the ears).
• Tiny black buttons for eyes- I used La Mode style# 49162, ¼” 7 mm on the size 4-6 mittens and la-petite style#762, 3/8” (9mm) on the Women’s small mittens.
• Sewing needle and thread for buttons. (You can use embroidery needle and embroidery floss if you prefer).
