Linen Stitch Scarf & Loop
Linen stitch is so brilliant—the way the stitch pattern mingles and pixelates a hand-dyed yarn just thrills knitters. But why should knitters have all the fun? Enter our friend Sandra, who shared a crochet stitch with us that has the same effect. We fell in love! Unlike its knitted cousin, crocheted ‘linen stitch’ is utterly reversible—doubly brilliant!
FINISHED SIZES 
Smaller scarf or loop: Approx. 4½ x 50”/11.5 x 127cm, excluding fringe. 
Larger scarf or loop: Approx. 6 x 73”/15 x 185cm, excluding fringe. 
Information given for smaller piece; larger piece in parentheses ( ).
YARN 
1 (2) skeins Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Sock (437 yds/400m each). 
Larger scarf shown on Chris in Color HS43 ‘Eiffel’; smaller loop shown on Kate in Color HS40 ‘Provence’. 
Or approx. 437 yds/400m (874 yds/800m) of an equivalent fingering-weight yarn. Includes 24 yds/22m (36 yds/33m) for optional twisted fringe on scarf.
NEEDLES 
US G (4mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge. 
US C (2.5–2.75mm) crochet hook, or 4 US sizes/1.25–1.5mm smaller than gauge hook. 
Locking markers: 10 for counting foundation stitches (optional); 1 for loop. 
Darning needle to finish. 
Pins and binder clips for twisting fringe.
GAUGE 
Approx. 28 sts = 4”/10cm in pattern, after blocking.
