This pattern started with a 1912 scarf pattern that was unworkable as written. After several tries, I came up with a pattern that reminded me of the ocean waves at Lincoln City, Oregon’s broad sandy beach. Lincoln City hosts a big annual kite festival in June. My pattern has a multiple of 6 stitches with 2 selvage stitches and 4 rows. Two of the rows are “knit across”.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, YO, k2tog, pass YO over 3 stitches and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

66 yards of Lion Brand’s 24/7 yarn will make 10 inches of a 32-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
