As part of the “April Showers Bring May Flowers” series, I am sharing a pretty, lacy, floral doily. It’s perfect for scraps, and easy to adjust if you want a larger one, or make a bunch and sew together for a table runner.
There are two PDFs. One contains US terms, and the other UK terms. The blog link currently only has instructions in US term.
Materials:
- 47 Yards Total of Worsted Weight Yarn - I used Knit Picks Dishie in Bumblebee (Flower Center, 12 yards), Begonia (Petals, 12 yards), Honeydew (Leaves, 4 yards) and White (19 yards).
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional, Jewelry Pliers
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives to Dishie: Lily Sugar n Cream, Red Heart’s Smoothie
The gauge and finished size is not essential for this project. I am using cotton because it’s durable, and machine washes and dries well. If you intend on using with warm or moist items, I recommend the cotton (or wool), otherwise any fiber works. Cotton yarn will appear thinner and have more definition than acrylic so it’s possible a worsted weight acrylic yarn would produce a slightly larger doily.
I usually recommend jewelry pliers to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle. Dishie Yarn is really smooth, and easy to weave the yarn in and out of.
