Gauge: 23 sts & 40 rounds = 10cm / 4” over 1x1 Rib on 3.25mm needles after blocking, slightly stretched.
21 sts & 28 rounds = 10cm / 4” over slipped stitch colourwork pattern on 4mm needles, after blocking.
Needles: 3.25mm / US 3 knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round
4mm / US 6 knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Notions: 13 (15, 16) stitch markers (including one unique for beg of round), tapestry needle
Notes: Leadlight is worked bottom-up, starting with a ribbed brim that is narrower than the hat’s body. The body is then worked in a stranded colorwork slipped stitch pattern; rather than being used to work any sts, yarn B is woven between, and tacked in place by, the yarn A sts.
It is important not to work these stranded floats too tightly as this will affect gauge and the finished fit.
