Lawsonia
Lawsonia was inspired by the beautiful designs found in hand and body henna painting that I saw first at a Sikh friend’s wedding when I was a teen. See background inspiration collection here: http://www.pinterest.com/christagiles/ink/
This pattern is worked at an extremely tight gauge to create excellent stitch definition. Suitable for intermediate knitters ready for a challenge, or advanced knitters who enjoy intricate work!
Adult Small
fingering/sock weight, worked at a gauge of 44 sts and 50 rows using a suggested needle size of 2.5 mm / US 1-1/2
Adult Large
DK weight, worked at a gauge of 32 sts and 40 rows using a suggested needle size of 3.5 mm / US 4
Use sts 1-44 or 1-32 starting on row 111 of Chart D to check your gauge.
Techniques include unusual increases and decreases, cables, nupps, bobbles, icord, and grafting in pattern (recommend, though an easier alternative is mentioned for finishing!)
The pattern has minimal written instructions at the start and finish, the majority is presented in chart form. Testers found that the unusual increases and decreases were explained clearly in the instructions, and warn only that knitters should carefully read the description for the centered double decrease, as it is different than the common CDD.
Huge thanks to my testers - their eagle eyes caught a number of things that we missed during editing!
