Lamb or Bear ? Hat and Scarf
Whether you are knitting for a sweet little lamb or a big boisterous bear, this set is the perfect gift.
Quick to knit (the smallest size set can be finished over two evenings) and cosy as can be.
This pattern covers most sizes from newborn to Adult. The yarn I have used is a cushy, bouncy merino…so try to get something with a lot of loft in it, think “squishy”! Or you could substitute the wool with a chenille style yarn for a similar effect.
Information
Ages 0-3 (3-6, 6-12 mths, 2-4, 4-8, 8 -12, adult)
Actual head circumference
34 (41, 43, 48, 51, 53, 56) cm / 13.5 (16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22)”
Yarn
1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) balls of White Gum Wool Boucle
The hat has been designed with this yarn in mind, it is thick, cushy singles style yarn (not a traditional loopy boucle) from http://whitegumwool.com.au/yarn-fleece-shop/
Substitute with: Malabrigo Chunky
Small amount of DK (8 ply) plain wool yarn in contrast colour for inner ear and bow.
Needles
I work in the round using the magic loop method. If you prefer to use a different method please choose your needles accordingly.
4.5 mm needles (or the size required to achieve gauge)
Notions
1 snap fastener - 1.5 - 2.5 cm (1/2 - 1”) in diameter
Darning needle
Gauge
Gauge 15 sts x 24 rows = 10cm / 4” after blocking but in a relaxed state (the swatch and the knitter!)
Notes
This hat is worked in the round using your preferred method.
You can make the hat longer by knitting more repeats before you start decreasing.
If you do not want a bow, replace it with a pompom or interesting button!
