Lalita
Lalita is pullover tunic designed for active play, with all the
features I wanted in an everyday garment for my busy daughter.
The high-low welted hem won’t leave a bare gap when a girl crouches down to dig up worms, and an A-line shape lets her freely swing, climb, jump and dance. Pockets hold her treasures and warm her hands. The longer length and the ease in the chest created by an exaggerated drop shoulder allow for several years’ wear as she grows, and the simple rolled cuffs gracefully become bracelet length over time.
Lalita is worked circularly from the bottom up, with German Short Rows to lower the back hem. The body is worked at a slightly loose gauge for drape. Stitches for the sleeves are picked up around the armscye after shoulder seaming, and directions are given for working the sleeves either flat or in the round.
Choose a worsted- or Aran-weight yarn. The original prototype was knit in Madeline Tosh Vintage; the sample in Cascade 220 held together with Cascade Alpaca Lace Paints for a marled effect.
