The Laebrak Hap is a classic shaded hap as knitted in Shetland. Haps were knitted by starting with the lace edge and worked inwards toward the centre, OR starting with the centre and worked outwards. Both methods were used in Shetland. In the past haps were square but half haps are now common, and so Laebrak is written as a Square Hap and as a Half Hap.

The hap starts with a simple lace edge, the first lace I was taught when I knitted my first hap. The construction is from the outside in, the method I was taught, getting verbal instructions at each stage. We typically do not learn from written/printed patterns.
