When my daddy taught me to knit as a little girl, I remember trying to avoid the dreaded dropped stitch, and begging him to pick the dropped ones back up for me, lest they create a mess of epic proportions.
That was then. We have entered the age of Clapotis, and dropped stitches rule! This sock is worked toe-up on 2 circulars and features an afterthought heel I call the Hitchhiker. Working an afterthought heel eliminates the distortion of stripe width that can result when working socks in short-repeat self-striping yarns, and is a pleasant change from the turned heel.
While the stitch pattern lacks that cathartic Clapotis moment of unraveling a massive ladder of stitches, the end result is no less dramatic.
