Lace V-Shawl
Excerpt from Bargello Knits
Some time after I designed a piece for Knitters Magazine (K99, Summer 2010, “Garden Party Duo”) I came up with this version of a V-shaped shawl. The magazine design has the bargello columns turned on point to form the V. This time, I wanted to keep the bargello columns vertical and somehow still get the V. By combining a wide lace motif with the long color changes of Poems Sock, I was able to use increases along the edges to add adjacent segments. As the stitch count grew I incorporated the charted lace.
Pattern notes
This shawl is worked in one piece beginning at the center of the lower edge. The center of the lace motif is an 11-stitch, 14-row repeat with reverse stockinette stitch and fagotting on each side. Once you get the newly added segments going in the fagotting, working in-step with the established segments follows. The edge stitches provide the yarn overs needed to increase the stitch count. Adjacent segments are added as each working segment reaches 25 stitches. A picot border is crocheted around the entire piece to decoratively cover any noticeable jogs between the segments.
