Tip: Make this project your own by choosing just a few of these patterns and repeating them more times until the wrap reaches your desired length. You also could choose to knit the patterns in a different order, or just pick one pattern for the entire wrap. Just remember to maintain your Edge Stitches to minimize curling along the edges.

Shetland Lace Lore
The Lace Sampler Wrap features an array of traditional patterns from the Shetland Islands. The handsome openwork lace in the Checkered Acre pattern, for example, is reminiscent of plowed fields, thus the name “Acre.”

Most Shetland Islanders would knit lace to supplement their income, so speed and ease of knitting were of great importance. That’s why many of the patterns are easy to memorize and alternate a lace row with a rest row. Shetland patterns were handed down from knitter to knitter, and some knitters would take a
piece of “sampler” knitting with them wherever they went so that they always could record new combinations of stitches. Although Shetland patterns are simple in themselves, finished pieces were designed to look complicated (and more expensive) by combining patterns-just like our Lace Sampler Wrap.“

The pattern calls for three balls of Lion Brand LB Collection Cotton Bamboo. The shawl in the picture uses the color Hibiscus. The pattern says split ring stitch markers and a large eye blunt needle are needed.
