Kothbiro (=The rain is coming) is the title of a famous song in Dholuo, a language spoken in East Africa.

This design is particularly close to my heart, as it mixes lots of memories of the African pieces of my life, and contrasting emotions, happiness and sorrow.
It wants to celebrate my roots, my family’s origin, and at the same time the tight bond I have with African continent.
The beautiful delicate yarn colors, magically made by the hands of Madeleine ( YAMA Fibre Art ), the rustic smell of the yarn, its soft simplicity, all brought me back to the powerful African landscapes, to the dusty roads I have so many times run across; to that magic moment just before the rain starts falling, transforming the dry earth and giving life to nature.

Kothbiro is a classical symmetrical triangle worked from the top down to the bottom edge. Textured stripes are alternated with Stockinette stitch fabric, to keep the project interesting, yet easy.
Optional tassels finish the shawl. The result is a beautiful, comfy and soft shawl that will keep you warm for a long time to come.

GAUGE after blocking: 18.5 sts x 25 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4” in Stockinette stitch.
Gauge is not critical; different gauge will only affect finished size and yardage.

FINISHED SIZE after blocking: 158 cm x 73 cm / 62.25” x 28.75”.

MATERIALS:
DK yarn, 100 g each (approx 210 m/230 yds), in the following quantity: C1: 1 skein, C2: 2 skeins, C3: 1 skein.
(Yarn used for the sample: Yama Fibre Art DK Luxe, 60% merino, 20% Alpaca, 20% Mohair. C1: Aubergine; C2: Grey Sage; C3: Milo).
4.5 mm / US 7 circular needle 60 cm/ 23” long or longer, or size to obtain gauge.

Questo modello è particolarmente caro al mio cuore, perchè mescola memorie della mia vita Africana e emozioni contrastanti, felicità e dolore.
Vuole celebrare le mie radici, le origini della mia famiglia, e allo stesso tempo il legame indissolubile che ho con il continente africano.
I delicati colori del filato, magicamente creati da Madeleine ( YAMA Fibre Art ), il rustico profumo della lana, la sua morbida semplicità, tutto mi riconduce ai possenti paesaggi afrcani, alle strade polverose che così tante volte ho percorso; al magico momento giusto prima che la pioggia cominci a cadere, trasformando la terra arida e dando vita alla natura.
Kothbiro è un classico scialle triangolare lavorato top down. Sezioni lavorate si alternano ad altre a maglia rasata così da mantenere il lavoro interessante ma rilassante.
Nappine opzionali rifiniscono lo scialle. Il risultato è un accessorio bello, confortevole e soffice che vi terrà caldo per lungo tempo a venire.
