The fit might seem a bit tight if you are used to slouchy hats, but the stitch pattern will conform to the wearer’s precise head shape after a couple of wearings. (Interweave)

Finished Size: 17½ (18¼, 19)“ brim circumference, shown in size 18¼”.

Yarn: Jamieson’s Shetland Heather Aran (100% Shetland; 101 yd [92.35 m] /1¾ oz [50 g]):
2 balls pine (MC), 1 ball each ivory (CC1), pippin (CC2), gingersnap (CC3), and aubergine (CC4) for all sizes. Distributed by Simply Shetland.

Needles: Size 6 (4.0 mm): 16” circular (cir) and double-pointed (dpn). Size 7 (4.5 mm): straight and 2 dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); tapestry needle, knitting pins or knitter’s safety pins to position trim on hat.

Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4” in Rosehip st using smaller needles.

Upright fitted hat. Significant negative ease.

Original pattern calls for several skeins of Jamieson’s Shetland Aran in a variety of colors, of which you’ll only use a small portion of each color. Many knitters may have remnants on hand for the floral decorations to be attached to the hat (stashbuster!).
