Karja
The Karja blanket pattern is the sixth pattern in the collection inspired by a rich heritage of Estonian national costumes. The pattern was inspired by a woven belt bought for the Estonian National Museum from Karja Parish, island of Saaremaa.
The other blanket patterns in the series released to date are the Urvaste, the Peetri , the Tartu, the Hanila, and the Viru-Nigula.
The blanket is worked in a mosaic garter stitch. The body of the blanket is worked in one piece with the side panels knitted separately and sewn on.
The charts are also given in reversed colours (in a separate file) for ease of use if you decide to swap the light and dark colours in your blanket.
Size
S 100 x 120 cm / 39½ x 47¼”
M 125 x 157 cm / 49¼ x 61¾”
The pattern is tech-edited and test knitted.
The pattern uses metric and imperial systems.
The mosaic pattern is charted and written out.
The sample was made in dk / 8 ply weight 100% wool. Different yarn weights and fibres can be used. Using different fibres affects the size of the blanket and the amount of yarn needed.
The yarn used for the sample:
Drops Karisma, 50 g / 1.76 oz = 100 m / 109 yards.
CA #01 Off White, CB #17 Bleu Marine Clair, CC #47 Forest Green, CD #18 Red.
