Karakri
Karakri is a garter stitch shawl knitted first top down and then sideways. One part of the edge is embellished with beads.
Yarn:
2 skeins of any fingering weight yarn 400 m/ 437 yds per 100 g, one in colour A and one in colour B. The sample was knitted with Chester Wool Company’s Merino Silk Singles (70% merino, 30% silk, 400 m/100 g).
The yardage is an estimate, the sample shawl used 80 g of colour A (light grey) and 80 g of colour B (black).
Beads:
31 pcs of size 0/6 or 0/8 seed beads. I used Matsuno 0/6 seed beads in colour Ceylon Pastel Grey.
Needles etc:
3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle 100 cm (40”) or longer.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
A small crochet hook or floss for placing the beads.
Five stitch markers.
Gauge:
21 st x 44 rows (22 garter ridges) = 10 x 10 cm/ 4 x 4” in garter stitch after blocking.
Finished measurements:
After blocking 236.5 x 43 cm/ 93 x 17”
The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.
