June Apple Inspiration
I tend to approach my knitting with much the same attitude as I do music; less can be more and space, or silence, speaks loudly. The inspiration for these socks came from a desire to remove “extra” lines (i.e. the angles of traditional gusset decreases) and focus on rolling function and style into one whole. Instead of having more going on with the gusset decreases along the side of the foot and the main pattern on the instep, why not combine the two elements? For June Apple, the decreases occur in the standard sets of two on every alternating round. However, I moved them away from the heel to be used instead as a decorative element on top of the foot. In doing this you can also see that as long as stitches are removed at a steady rate they can be taken from anywhere in the round. It is possible to utilize this method of decreasing with any stitch pattern where two stitches of every other round may be taken away until the original number (or desired number) is reached.
