Jory
Meet the first pattern in the Oregon Wine Country Collection. Jory is a long shrug-style cardigan with an option for a shorter, more traditional shrug length.
Oregon is home to nearly 400 wineries, most of which are located along the western part of the state where the damp, moderate climate nurtures vines that produce some of the country’s finest pinots. Jory is one of the three primary soil types for growing grapes in Oregon and is the inspiration for this design.
Jory can be worn dressed up or dressed down. The luxurious softness and lightness of Terra (an appropriately named yarn for a design inspired by earth/soil!) creates a perfect layer of light warmth for those in warmer climates.
Jory knits up beautifully in other aran weight yarns, but we have found that you may need to adjust your needle size to get gauge. Simplinatural by Skacel, for instance, is a great choice but you will most likely need to go down a needle size because it seems to knit up at a larger gauge.
Questions about skill level: This pattern is technically a simple shape so would normally be ideal for an advanced beginner. However, the slipped stitch pattern requires focus and attention to detail in the beginning, as you will be working it along with raglan increases so the pattern “grows” as you go. This is really the only reason the pattern is indicated as intermediate -- my beginner-level testers found that part a little more challenging than my other designs, but once they had the concept down, the rest was easy.

Yarn Notes
Terra is a deliciously soft, nubby single ply aran weight yarn that creates a light fabric with medium drape and minimal stitch definition. It creates a rustic, organic texture that celebrates the richness of the Jory soil that inspired this design.
