Jane's Open Star II
I revised a pattern published in 1841 London from The Lady’s Assistant…in Knitting, Netting and Crochet Work (also known as The Lady’s Work Book), 4th Edition by Mrs. (Jane) Gaugain, p.221. Her book had no illustrations, so it’s always a surprise what shows up on my needles!
I changed the star to stockinette stitch, changed a double decrease and converted the original pattern from in-the-round to flat knitting. There are 16 rows to the pattern. 10 of those rows are “purl across”. Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, S2KP and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
66 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of a 32-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
