Ilaria features an intricate lace border with a stockinette stitch body and picot edges. The shawl is worked sideways and has a very simple construction with shaping in the stockinette section only - which makes the project easier for less experienced knitters.
I used a DK weight yarn, but the pattern will also work, after some modifications, in lace, fingering or sport weight yarn. Both the width and the length can be easily adjusted by working a different number of chart repeats.
The pattern includes both charts and full written instructions, as well as notes on modifications.

Size
Wingspan: 176 cm/70.5 in
Depth at the widest point: 51.5 cm/20.5 in
You can adjust the width and length by working a different number of chart repeats. (Any changes will affect yarn usage.)

Gauge (blocked)
Stockinette stitch: 20 sts and 25 rows = 10 cm/4 in, with larger needle
Lace pattern: one 34-stitch and 24-row pattern repeat is 17 cm/6.75 in wide and 9.5 cm/3.75 in tall, with larger needle
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but it will affect yardage and finished size if different from above.

Yarn
680 m/750 yds of DK weight smooth merino wool or merino-silk blend in a solid or semi-solid colourway; shown in Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% silk, 49% merino wool, 137 m/150 yds per 50 g, colourway: Madre Perla)
You can use lighter weight yarn - lace, fingering or sport - and work a different number of chart repeats to reach the desired width and length.
