“Hymenoptera - A large order of insects that includes the bees, wasps, ants, and sawflies”

Inspired by all the lovely bees in my yard, 10% of all pattern sales will be donated to the Canadian Bee Research Fund to help learn more about bee health.

These socks are worked toe-up, in the round, and come in 3 sizes. The colour work portion is in chart format. I have included an additional full page chart for printing purposes.

Skills Required
Judy’s Magic Cast-on, working in the round, knit, purl, slipping stitches, increasing, decreasing, stranded colour-work knitting, bind off using a stretchy method.

Materials
Sample Yarn Used:
1 x 100g/3.5oz, 423m/463yds skein, Sock Obsessions, Resilient Smooth Sock, 75% superwash merino/25% nylon in colour Radiation.

1 x 20g/84m mini skein, Brine Dyeworks, Merino Sock 75/25, in colour Hot Mustard

1 X 20g/84m mini skein, Barnyard Knits Fingering, 75% superwash merino/25% nylon in colour Campfire.

Yardage: the equivalent of two minis and a full skein is more than enough for these socks
250m/273yds (300m/328yds, 375m/410yds)

Suggested Needles:
2.5mm/US 1.5, 80cm/32” length for magic loop, OR 2 40cm/16” long for the two-circular method, OR 2.5mm/US 1.5 double pointed needles OR size(s) needed to obtain gauge. Many knitters go up 1-2 sizes for the colour work portion to maintain gauge. Darning needle.

Gauge: 34sts and 50 rounds/10cm or 4”, in the round, in stockinette stitch AND colour-work.

Sizes:
Small = Ladies US size 4-6.5
Medium = Ladies US size 7-9/Mens US size 6-8
Large = Ladies US size 9.5-12/Mens US size 8.5-11

How to Choose Your Size:
Choose based on your FOOT measurements. The sock stretches and some negative ease makes for a more wearable sock. If you need to add/subtract length, since feet come in ALL shapes and sizes, do so in the foot before gusset increases.

Notes:
-Many knitters have a much tighter gauge when knitting stranded colour work. Ways to make sure your colour work is loose enough so your sock fits:

-Go up a needle size or two for the colour work portion of the sock.
-Do the section inside out so your floats are a bit longer.
-Make sure to spread out your sts on your right needle as you are knitting so that your floats are long enough.
-I usually tack down my floats but I didn’t with these. My foot doesn’t get caught when putting the socks on and I have pretty good stretch.
-Increase your st count and do a larger size of the chart - detailed in pattern
