When I was a little girl I really believed gnomes lived in the forests I was walking through, and I was also hoping that there’s a little house gnome around, too. Maybe that’s why I still think nothing turns a house into a home better than a house gnome himself!

He can decorate every single place in the house – sit on a bookshelf, hide among the cups in the kitchen, guard your toothbrush in the bathroom or become a part of a festive wreath on your front door. Since he’s made from fingering yarn there’s room for making him bigger and when made from bulky yarn he’ll be big enough to serve as a great bookend. It’s easy to weigh his bottom down, so that he’ll sit on the shelf with no problems. The way his legs are attached to the body allows for him to be sitting with his knees under his chin, with arms around the legs – if you weigh his bottom and boots and sew him in this position, he’ll be a cute paper weight, too. He’ll also make a great housewarming gift or birthday or Christmas present when paired with a fairy tales book (especially when made with worsted yarn).

Please note that to make him you’ll also need a wire brush for making his moustache and beard.

It’s easy to change his size by using thicker yarn and bigger hook (see testers’ projects).
