Hīnaki
Hīnaki (Hee-narki) is the New Zealand Māori word for a type of eel net. The stitch pattern and shape of this cowl reminded me of this ancient net design which is still used today.
This cowl is a fast knit, taking a couple of hours of concentrated knitting, and with it’s simple 2 round repeat you can take it anywhere.
Wearing it is a breeze, it slips over the head easily and the spiral stitch pattern collapses into a squishy pile of cosy ripples.
Experiment with different yarns and stitch numbers to make a longer or wider cowl (details in the pattern).
