Helsinki Sweater
The Helsinki Sweater is a graceful yoke design with short rows and waist shaping to give a flattering fit. The body of the sweater is a deep olive green; the many oranges and subtle greens of the Turkish motif in the yoke give an overall effect of mid-century Scandinavian pottery designs: thus, the name Helsinki Sweater.
Eight shades of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift fingering-weight yarn are used in this sweater.
The body and sleeves are easy, you might say mindless!, knitting; the yoke has all the attributes of traditional Fair Isle knitting--only two colors per round, value gradients moving in the background and in the pattern, and geometric motifs with no long floats. Therefore, the sweater is a good introduction to stranded knitting.
The pattern comes is offered in 6 sizes: 33”, 37”, 41”, 45”, 49”, and 53” bust.
February 2016: I’ve added another color way to the pattern--Autumn in Oklahoma: deep blue body with the bright colors of fallen leaves.
