Hedgehog Helmet
The collective noun for a group of hedgehogs is “prickle.” As in, “I knit an entire prickle of hedgehogs last week.” And who wouldn’t want to when they’re so much fun?
First make a simple cap, then pick up along its back edge and work down to form a helmet. Shape the neck edge with short rows, then continue out to the chin straps. Work a little ribbed edging all around, then the real fun begins: Pick up and knit your hedgehog’s prickles with fur yarn! Stuff the inside and knit until the hedgehog’s back is closed. Now make a cute little face, stuff, and stitch it on. Button eyes and nose finish the job. You won’t be able to stop with one. And then you’ll find yourself in quite a prickle.
