This elongated crescent-shaped shawl is knit from the top/back neck down to the hem. It is shaped with yarn-overs on every row, with a center back lace panel featuring clusters of hazel nuts and the tree’s signature drooping leaf motifs. It is knit from one skein (435 yards/100 g skeins) of fingering-weight yarn.

If choosing to substitute a yarn, select a fingering weight yarn with a nice drape and limited halo. Silk blend yarns would be perfect for this piece.

The hazel tree is said to mark the heart of the Otherworld. Traditionally, hazel-nuts were associated with the gift of wisdom and the hazel tree features prominently in sacred lore. Even today, many ancient wells are encircled by hazel trees and their protective powers against evil forces.
