Handmade hand towels are a favorite of mine. I love to make them, display them and use them in my kitchen.
This hand towel is an easy, beginner friendly project that features simple half double (half treble) crochet stitches. It’s one of my favorite stitch patterns because it creates a beautiful texture and fabric.
This hand towel is perfect for the kitchen, or the bathroom, and looks great in a solid color or stripes - you can even pull out your cotton scraps, and stashbust.
I use my hand towel purely for drying my hands and decoration, but if you use yours to clean up messes, keep in mind, they may stain your fabric.
The free crochet pattern is available to free in US terms. For purchase, there is a US term PDF, and a UK term PDF.
Materials:
- Worsted/Aran Weight (#4) Cotton Yarn - I used WeCrochet Dishie: 380 Yards (347.5 Meters) of Silver, 31 Yards (28.4 Meters) of Swan
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives to Dishie: Lily Sugar n Cream, Red Heart’s Smoothie
Dishie Yarn is a touch thinner than Lily Sugar n Cream - you may need to go down a hook size with this yarn if it’s your choice, though gauge is not essential in this project if the finished size isn’t.
I usually recommend jewelry pliers to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle. Dishie Yarn is really smooth, and easy to weave the yarn in and out of.
Time Spent:
