Hawserlaid
This pattern is available from Payhip via the link above and from LoveCrafts here
Hawserlaid was included in Scarves, Etc. 2014,
shown in:
Quince & Co. Tern in the shade dusk 415 - 3 skeins
Needles: pair in size US 4 3.5mm
Construction:
This shawl/scarf is knitted sideways from tip to tip. ‘Laid’ is the traditional term for twist in rope and string construction and ‘hawser’ refers to the three strands, so a hawser-laid rope is a three-strand twisted rope. The 3x3 traveling or twisted rib stitch imitates the texture and appearance of heavy string or rope. You will see your knitting take on this characteristic more and more as you knit. You can then decide how much you want to block this out once you’re done.
