Possibly one of the most famous trios in film, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger share a deep bond of friendship that forms the emotional core of the films. Sorted into the same house on their first night at Hogwarts, the three friends grow together from innocent children to awkward teens to young heroes carrying the weight of the wizarding world on their shoulders. Through classes, Quidditch matches, balls, adventures, and even war, the three friends stick together, pooling their knowledge and experiences and keeping each other alive to the very end.

The three actors who play Harry, Ron, and Hermione were mostly unknowns when cast. Director Chris Columbus says of Emma Watson, “She had Hermione’s sense of humor, she was bright, sharp as a whip, and the camera loved her. Emma was Hermione and that was that!” Regarding Rupert Grint, “he had this devilish, mischievous quality, and his face was a wealth of all these emotions. He had a wonderful sense of humor but also a real sense of soul.” As for Daniel Radcliffe, “There was one thing that he had that you can’t teach anyone, which was this sort of haunted quality that Harry Potter had in the books.” According to Daniel Radcliffe, the three actors are just as close in real life as their characters on screen. “We bonded just like our characters. We all really like each other.”

Inspired by the trio’s close friendship, these three toy replicas for Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all made the same way, then individualized with clothing, accessories, hair, and facial features. Worked in one piece from the bottom up, the bodies are worked in the round as a tube. Color changes create clothing and features such as shoes, pants for Harry and Ron, sweaters, hair, and more. Once the tube is closed, stitches are picked up and knit to form the flowing gown and the skirt for Hermione. Running stitches created when the tube is stuffed form the legs, arms, and neck seams, while simple embroidery allows for facial details, including Harry’s glasses and scar.
