Born and raised in San Francisco, I spent a lot of my childhood in Chinatown, and this wrap highlights some of my favorite places. Begin at Dragon’s Gate, the gateway to Chinatown, then look up as you head north: lanterns as far as the eye can see. I loved going to the Chinese New Year parade as a child, anticipating the long, colorful dragon at the end. To celebrate Chinese New Year, as well as birthdays, weddings, red egg and ginger parties, and many other holidays, we would go to Four Seas Restaurant, owned for over 25 years by my uncle, aunt, and cousins—can you see the gold chandeliers with lotus blossoms in the banquet room? To finish, on the northern outskirts of Chinatown, was Jec’s Sewing Shop, owned by my mom, filled with the lively chatter of the seamstresses (my “aunties”) sewing, the clicking of the buttonhole machine, and the rhythmic hum of the sewing and overlock machines. And, of course, the cable car (my favorite, even now!), which runs along the western edge of Chinatown. Take a stroll with me along Grant Avenue, the heart of Chinatown.

Grant Avenue Stroll is a curved, textured wrap to keep you warm in the cold San Francisco weather (or cold weather anywhere). Five different stitch patterns, worked from south to north, with cables worked at the same time on the western edge will keep your needles knitting and interest high. Garter sections are worked in between each stitch pattern. Integrated i-cords finish the western and eastern edges of the wrap. The curved shape (for easier wearability) is achieved with short rows. There is never a dull moment as you stroll through and knit San Francisco’s Chinatown through my needles.
