Granny Paints the Town
Use scraps of yarn, or invest in a variety of colors. Directions are included for two different backgrounds to the ruffled circle: a traditional granny, and a lacier version, as well as a V-stitch join and a lacy border.
The blanket pictured is made with Tahki Cotton Classic, and is 5 squares across, up and down. Each square measures 6.5”, and with the lacy join and border, the finished blanket measures 39” by 39”. (5 dc per inch is the gauge.)
I have tested the square using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino as well. I used a slightly smaller hook and the square measures 6” across.
I recommend doing a swatch if gauge is important to you; for a granny square blanket, gauge isn’t as crucial.
You should be able to get at least two squares out of two skeins of the yarns mentioned; probably you will get more, but I like to be generous in my estimates of how much yarn you’ll use. Better to have too much than not enough!
