The shape is drawn from a traditional Greek waistcoat, and the motifs come from the Chateau de Montresor in the Loire Valley, France. Reports Di, ‘The ancient wallpapers escaped the destruction of the revolution and show the amazing skills of the French wallpaper makers! I allowed the design to develop into the style of Jujol, the Spanish architect who worked with Gaudi, and whose house contained decorations handpainted in this style.”

• The waistcoat is worked in one piece to the armholes, then divided for working the fronts and back separately.
