I used to own a lot of Cut Loose brand clothing, a line both flattering and comfortable. I wanted to design a chunky knit that would have the same flow—something that would blend with my Cut Loose pieces and be perfect for fall walks along Lake Ontario. As usual with my designs, it was also important that the silhouette appeal to my twenty-something daughter, and I think the closer fit through the shoulders and bust makes this jacket work for her too. While I have a preference for neutrals, she likes striking colours; both work for this versatile garment. The name comes from the picturesque community on the shore of the Bay of Quinte, where I frequently catch the ferry over to Prince Edward County.
Those familiar with my work will recognize this as a relative of the Petrova jacket. This unstructured version features:
• bottom-up construction,
• fronts with a deep 5” overlap,
• a lower hem 11 ½” wider than the bust, with decreasing at the sides,
• sleeves knitted in the round,
• knitted-in saddle shoulders with short rows and a bit of wrapping,
• 12-stitch horseshoe cables travelling up the sleeves into the collar,
• a collar finished with a sewn bind-off to echo the unfinished cast-on at the lower hem,
• grafted underarms,
• minimally finished edges with no ribbing or knitted-on borders, and
a choice of front closure: 1-3 buttons with crochet button loops, or shawl pin.
The first three sizes take two skeins, the last two sizes take three.
