Pockets seem to be a universally loved feature, and it’s easy to see why, but adding them to handknit sweaters can be a bit problematic. Patch pockets are cute, but often awkwardly placed, and adding side pockets to a form-fitting garment can create unsightly bulk. I circumvented these issues by knitting two mirrored halves with afterthought pockets situated right where hands naturally fall.

The loose cocoon shape hides any bulges that might result from the
pocket linings, while three-quarter-length sleeves keep the generous silhouettefrom overwhelming the wearer. An exposed seam in back is flanked by decorative eyelet increases, while tight bobbles adorn hem and sleeve edges. The yarn is a surprising technical wonder; what looks like a single ply is actually a fine silk tube that holds fluffy baby alpaca fiber. It is light, incomparably soft, and pill-resistant.
