This scarf uses Fission Knitting to create a different design on each side of the fabric. The result is a layer of cables overlaid on each side of a marled garter stitch middle layer. Two fingering weight yarns are held together to create a worsted weight scarf.

The sample shown is knit with a solid coloured yarn as the main colour (MC) and a gradient for the contrast colour (CC). Five diamond motifs are worked on one side of the scarf where one of the diamonds differs only in its colour. The effect of the gradient permeates the character of the reverse side even though the linked design is worked only in the main colour.

As matching gauge is not essential in this project, look for fingering weight yarns that are close in thickness. The yarns do not need to be the same base. Smooth yarns work best. Sticky yarns may be difficult to work with. Choose a needle size where you like the fabric. If the gauge is too loose, the cables will not look crisp.

This scarf looks striking knit with variegated, speckled or self striping sock yarns paired with a solid colour. Two solid/tonal yarns work great too!
