Download features:

  • Chart with key to US and UK/Aus terms

  • One page written pattern in UK/Aus terms (as featured in Inside Crochet Magazine.)

  • One page written pattern in US terms

  • Notes on yarn and hook substitution and resizing tips

  • Designer contact information for customer support

  • Photo Gallery of some FOs from several different stitchers

  • Permission to sell finished objects (see Note)

Note: I am in Australia, where the default reading of copyright and design law forbids selling of FOs (as does the UK to the best of my knowledge), therefore the pattern comes with an explicit permission to crafters to sell their finished objects if they so desire. I realise that this right is implicit for any US customers.

UK Terms pattern originally appeared in Inside Crochet Issue 6, which is available either in print or online via YUDU.com here.

Just a note - the scarf length listed took all but a few grams of the Yarn Pirate yarn (I did not swatch with that yarn, either). Dimensions given are after hand washing and lightly blocking with air drying - off the hook measurements were not quite as long.

My estimates of skeins needed to achieve a similar length in the Save/Spend/Spoil Yourself section of the magazine pattern are as follows:
Patons Regia Sock: 3 skeins (using 2 and a bit)
Colinette Jitterbug: 2 skeins (using 1 1/2)
Colinette Handpainted Fingering: 3 skeins (using 2 3/4)

(I have only done a complete scarf in the Yarn Pirate Superwash Merino - the above are purely estimates :’)…)

My original swatch was in Louet Gems Fingering (same base as the Claudia Handpainted) and I used 5.5mm and 3.25mm hooks for a similar drape to the pattern. This will yield a slightly wider scarf.

If you wish to widen or narrow the scarf, adjust your initial row stitch count by multiples of 4. This will ensure that the gathering sections have the correct stitch count.
